What are the mnemonics?

Mnemonics are techniques to encode difficult-to-remember information in a way that is much easier to recall after long time. To put it simply, mnemonics are memory aids that help make a connection between what you already know, something which is easy to remember and what you need to remember.

Where can I view a mnemonic?

When you search for a word, mnemonic will appear just below the definition of a word.

How can I view an image for a word?

If a word has an image, it will appear below the mnemonic which can be enlarged by clicking on it. You can also fetch images related to that word using link of flickr.com that appear in the result of any word search. (Images fetched from flickr may be not relevant to the meaning in some cases.)

How can I add a mnemonic ?

To add a mnemonic to a word, search for that word and click on “add mnemonic “, a text box will appear, type your mnemonic and give a proper tag (ex. Language tags : English, Hindi, German, Chinese etc.). Click on submit button. This mnemonic is now added to our data base.

How can I edit a mnemonic?

Since mnemonics are user generated, you may not like the way a mnemonic is submitted for a particular word by some author. So, to edit this mnemonic click on “edit this mnemonic” a text box will appear. Edit this mnemonic and submit. Your submitted mnemonic will be displayed now.

How can I view a wordlist?

If you want to view a wordlist, click on wordlist link on main page menu; it will take to you to the wordlist page. There you can select any wordlist from dropdown menu that you want to. Few features (like Learning Level) are available only to loggedin users.

What are the public and private wordlist?

A public wordlist is common to all; like GRE wordlist, WORD OF THE DAY etc... Which are open and common to every user.

A private wordlist is a wordlist created by users themselves. A user can create his wordlist and make it private for his further reference. Private Wordlist created by users will not be shown to anyone. You can create your private wordlist by any name that you want. But make sure that you use English alphabets only. Using number or any other symbol is not accepted. White spaces are also not allowed in wordlist name. Please give proper description to your wordlist.

How can I create my own word list?

To create your own wordlist, go to wordlist and there is an option to create a new wordlist. Name your wordlist and give a brief description about it. You can choose to keep it private or public. You need to login to create your own wordlist.

How can I set a word learning level for me?

To set a word learning level for any word, you need to first add that word to your own wordlist and then set the level as unread, not mastered, and mastered. Even if you are using public wordlist like GRE or WORD OF THE DAY; you need to follow the same procedure. It’s always recommended to use learning level feature as it will help you to track your progress.

How can I add a word to my wordlist?

To add a word to your own wordlist, search for that word and click on add this word to your wordlist, a text box will open. Choose your relevant wordlist from dropdown menu, enter some short description of that word (which will appear as condensed meaning in wordlist section) and submit. This word will be added to your chosen wordlist.

How can I import list of words (I have in excel sheet) directly in wordlist created by me?

As of now, we don’t have any such import feature but you can always email us (use the same email id you entered during registration) your wordlist name and wordlist in excel format at admin@mnemonicdictionary.com . After review, we will link your excel sheet with wordlist name created by you so that you can excess it directly from wordlist zone.

How many wordlist I can create?

You can create as many wordlist as you want. Make sure that you keep them private .

How can I delete or rename wordlist created by me?

You can’t directly. Just send us an email (use the same email id you entered during registration) with your wordlistname and we will delete it for you.

Can I create a public wordlist?

Yes, you can create a public wordlist only, if admin finds that it is going to help a majority of users.

How can I have an access to other’s wordlist?

You cannot have an access to other’s wordlist, until and unless it is made public. You can only access to public word list and your own wordlist.

How can I add a word to MD?

If you don’t find a word in our database, you can add this word to MD. Click on “add this word to MD” . A text box will open, type the information you know about this word and submit. This word is now added to our database.

How can I subscribe for email word of the day?

Subscribing to our free email word of the day is very easy. Please enter you email in “email word of the day” box, a verification code will appear, enter that code correctly. A confirmation mail is sent to your inbox. Click on that verification link and your word of the day subscription is completed.

How can I subscribe for SMS word of the day?

Click on Mobile-phone option on main page which will take you to SMS word of the day subsciption page. Click on "Subscribe to this SMS Gupshup" button and enter your mobile-number. After few minutes a verification code will be send to your mobile. Visit the SMS subscription page again and again enter your mobile number. It will request you to enter your verification code. After verification, you are subscribed to SMS word of the day.

How much it cost me to subscribe for daily sms word of the day to my mobile?

Nothing, we don’t charge our users for anything, our sms word of the day is completely free.

How can I invite my friends to join SMS word of the Day?

Visit the SMS word of the Day subscription page and use box below “Invite your Friends to join FREE SMS word of the day” and enter as many phone numbers (separated by comma) as you want. We will send an SMS to all your invites mentioning how to subscribe for SMS word of the Day.

Can I or my friends join the SMS word of the Day Group directly from their mobile-phone?
